Your skin type is typically what you’re born with. While your skin can go through different phases or react based on the weather or circumstance, your skin’s natural tendencies are driven by your skin type. Very broadly speaking, there are Dry, Oily, Normal, Combination and Sensitive skin types. Having said that, there are many nuances of each skin type. We’ll be building this section out to dig into the details!
Have you ever gone for a bra fitting, and been told that you’re a completely different bra size than the one you had been wearing for years prior to your fitting? You probably feel relief, as your bra now feels a lot more comfortable. No more straps digging into your skin or back pain from improper support.
You may wonder how this relates to your skin, but using products that aren’t correct for your skin type can create problems too, just this time with your skin.
You may find it strange that people may be using the wrong products, but it’s more common than you think! In fact, you may be using the wrong products too and this can negatively impact your skin. For example, if you’re using products for dry skin, but your skin is actually oily, then you’re bound to break out frequently. Or if you’re using products targeted towards acne breakouts, but your skin is dry, then you’re going to struggle with dry, flaky skin that never seems to get better.
Why Does Your Skin Type Change?
There are many environmental and internal influences that can impact your skin’s appearance and texture. Keep in mind while reading this that our skin is constantly changing, there are so many environmental factors that can impact the appearance and touch of your skin. Even though you may know your skin type today, your skin can change seasonally, if not monthly.
- Hormone changes (menopause, pregnancy, menstrual cycles, etc.)
- Skin disorders (Rosacea, Dermatitis, Psoriasis)
- Climate (temperature and humidity)
- Skin Care (lack of routine, over-exfoliating, over-moisturizing, improper ingredients)
